Chocolate Breakfast Gravy

I know this sounds crazy but let me start by saying how incredibly amazing chocolate gravy is. I had honestly never heard of it until we stayed with some friends (Shoutout to Adam and Becca Thompson) one weekend and they made this amazing breakfast for us. For my bridal shower, my maid of honor sent out recipe cards with the invitations for friends and family to share recipes with me for my recipe box. Becca shared her great grandma Nola Denny’s chocolate gravy recipe with me and today was the first time I tried making it… I was not disappointed at all with how it turned out! Thank you Becca for sharing this special recipe with me and giving me permission to share it with others 🙂

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 tbsp Hershey’s cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup margarine (I did not have this so I used regular salted butter)
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions:

  1. In a medium sauce pan, mix the sugar cocoa powder, flour and salt.
  2. Add milk and vanilla and whisk well to mix together.
  3. Cook on medium heat until thick (I had to stir occasionally because I was afraid it would stick to the bottom!)
  4. When thickened, add butter or margarine and mix until melted and incorporated.
  5. Serve over biscuits and enjoy!
